How limiting, in what way? Is there a limited number of operating systems it can handle?

I'm not sure of the older windows bootloader from XP, but what is included in Vista is not limited in any way that I know of. The thing is to edit the Vista bootloader you need to use "bcdedit.exe" and the command line. Of course if you are not comfortable with that then use something like EasyBCD. Using a bootloader tweaker like that you have a very easy way to get the Vista bootloader to load into pretty much any OS including Mac OS X, Linux, BSD, ReactOS, SkyOS, OS/2, Unix, Dos, legacy versions of Windows, and others.

Here is a great site that has a really good guide for doing such setups and I have personally used it and it has been very benifical.
The definitive dual-booting guide: Linux, Vista and XP step-by-step

I hope some of that helps out.
