Default Kingston A400 good for Steam and UPlay?

I see that the Kingston A400 is for sale at Newegg and wanted to know if anyone has used it; and if it's a worthy SSD for gaming. Thanks!

I haven't used that Kingston one, but I did use a Kingston one in the past and it seemed fine. Currently though if I am buying a 2.5" sata drive then Crucial MX500 is what I get. $94 for the 250GB, $154 for the 500GB and only $280 for the 1TB at Amazon.

Considering the issues people have had with Samsung's warranty support I try to avoid them.

Thanks ipaine, I've been looking at Crucial MX500 and I've read good things. I find Samsung to be overrated. Wasn't sure if it was worth it, but for 94$ i can't go wrong.

I run all Crucial SSDs, see my signature or specs. All have been excellent and flawless. No hesitation in recommending them, but Kingston is a reputable brand as well.

Now I want to get a 1TB MX500... thanks a lot ipaine! ;)

You are welcome!!

We have bought a lot of the MX500 drives at work and have been very pleased with them.

The benefits of a SSD for gaming purposes are pretty minor. It doesn't help load times as much as you'd think.

Are you only putting Steam and such on this drive? If so, whatever is the cheapest will likely be fine. If it dies, you can always re-download all your games.

If you are using it as your only SSD (Windows+Games), then I'd say go with the MX500 or something along those lines.

I am only putting Steam and UPlay games on it. I just want it to run smooth and effecient. I do have a 2tb WD Green. It's an old drive, but it should work. Your opinion?
Or just spend the 90+ on an SSD.

Thanks!

I'm the wrong person to ask

I'm running 2x2TB MX300 (1 for games, 1 for storage) and a 480GB MP500 for the OS.

I don't think a 240GB SSD is enough for games these days, unless you keep only a few installed at any given time. My game SSD is sitting at 1.05TB used... granted I have roughly 25 games installed that I don't play

A WD Green probably isn't the best choice for running anything off of, especially an older one at that. They were not very fast drives as they only spun at 5400rpm if I recall. I think in your case, you'll see some gains in using a SSD over that.

This is probably the best value in SSD's currently: https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX70381

250GB SSD's really aren't really the best value though, they average about $100. You can get 500GB SSD's for roughly $150. 100% more space for only 50% more cost. For example, Newegg's eBay store has a WD Blue 500GB for $135 - https://www.ebay.ca/itm/WD-Blue-3D-N...item2a8b2dd5a6
