My System Specs

Default What SSD to use as my new main drive

I purchased a new Samsung 250GB 850 Pro a little while ago but I haven't put it in my system yet because I'm waiting for Windows 10 to come out. I just picked up an Intel 730 240GB drive off the latest Newegg sale.

So my question is which would be the better drive to use as my main drive? Samsung? Intel? No real noticeable difference? Let me know what you think.

Nevermind. I think I answer my own question.

Haven't confirmed, but I believe the samsung should be the faster of the two...but the intel should technically be the more reliable.

I would use the Intel 730 because of the power loss protection. Here's a quote from an analysis of its cousin:

Quote:
As already hinted at, these drives simply could not be made to fail, no matter what was thrown at them. The S3500 was power-cycled some 6,500 times for several days: several terabytes of random data were written and read from that drive. not a single byte of data was lost. Despite even the reads being interrupted, there was not a single time - not even once - when the S3500 failed to verify the data that had been written.
Analysis of SSD Reliability during power-outages

The key feature of the 730 is reliability. Its has, what appear to be, the same beefy capacitors as the S3500. Intel claims the same level of reliability. For me, I want my most reliable SSD to be the system drive.

The 480 is on par with, if not exceeding an 840pro.

I jumped on the bandwagon. 200 bucks for an upgrade from 240 to 480 gig? Sold. I'll move the 240 to the laptop, and I've got a spare intel 520 series 180gb now. Not sure what I'll do with that. Might toss it to a buddy whos still on an old x-25m 80gb...
