My System Specs

Default Shock-proof external HDD

I have a customer on the market for an external HDD; knowing that she'll be on busses daily, I wonder which external shock-proof HDD would be better suited for the job?

She needs 2-3TB (she's a graphic designer), Mac compatibility, 1394/eSata connectivity (old MacBook without Thunderbolt).

Any ideas? This is a subject I don't know much about.

Look at the ioSafe lines. I've set them on fire (with napalm). Dropped them from roofs. Driven over them...and even shot them. The only thing that killed them was the 44s. :P

BUT they are not exactly 'portable' as they are big and heavy chunks of metal.

Bit more portable - but not as durable - are the Lacie's.

Less rugged but still decent is the Iomega eGo w/ powerband.

No idea on eSATA or firewire as Ive only used USB models. ;)

Tx much, I'll start with that.

I know the capacity ain't there, but Sammy has a 1Tb SSD - ain't cheap too, but dataloss is priceless... would that be an option?

external SSD's are tanks in comparison to external HDDs...so if she has the coin...its the only sensible way to go. There are lot more ALU...hell even a couple TITANIUM clad UBS SSD models out there. Honestly...get a budget in both price and capacity...and then go from there. ;)

ioSafe has a rock solid rep and even offer data recovery on some of their models. IF you can afford them that is. Damn shame I had to kill mine for the reviews I did on them.

Tx again, she is listening. We'll see if budget equals peace of mind.
