Default Up to date Sata expansion card?

I am looking to get at least a 4 port sata expansion card. I would like it to have raid controller abilities. But all the posts regarding the subject are several years old. Anyone have any suggestions?

Unless your spending $200 or more they are all generic crap.

Pick up a used perc 5/i or 6/i with the appropriate cable.
They are pretty cheap now

You could get a PERC5i for like $30 on eBay IIRC.

the PERC5i is not a bad card is just that is a bit out of date, and in order to do RAID5 would need to have the battery attached and the memory module, and it has a SFF8484 SAS connector which would require that you get the necessary breakout fan cable to 4 SATA connectors which in general is twice the price of a mini SAS SFF8087 to 4 SATA break out cable. I would go instead with something a bit more modern like the LSI card presented in the BST thread here http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...aid-cards.html
