Default Western Digital "Reds"

can you use western digital Reds" in a normal desktop?

i have 6 drives and am about to replace 2 necause they are only 500 gigs each. 2tb seems to be the new "normal". i hear that these have a longer warranty and assume that , by extension, that they must be of higher quality.

i have also read (cant remember where) that they dont do so well in a desktop. seems that they like to be left on all the time.

anyone know anything?

thx for your tie

My System Specs

Default

They are designed more so for file storage inside a NAS unit, thus always-on 24x7 operation. It's kind of like the RE3 drives, only cheaper and slower RPM (nobody really knows what Intellipower runs at, but I'd guess somewhere around 5k RPM). As such, this means it also works well in RAID configurations.

If you just want a high-performance desktop drive, stick to the Black series IMO.

I have 4x 3TB WD Red's in my QNAP TS-469L NAS and they've been working beautifully thus far. Only have had it for about 3 weeks now though.
