How to get more SATA3 ports in system?
How does one get more SATA3 ports in their system?

Intel boards generally come with 2 'southbridge' SATA3 ports and 2 Marvell* SATA3 ports. That is not enough for my friend's needs.

As well, I've heard nothing but bad things about the Marvell chip. I'm not sure if all the complaints are valid, but would a PCIE card SATA controller be 'better quality'?

he does NOT need RAID functionality, simply more ports. if he could buy a [comparatively cheap] motherboard with 20 SATA ports, he would be happy with that.

*it's usually marvell that provides this controller right?

any recommendations?

Any specific reason he needs 6Gbps ports? They will only benefit SSDs. Either way if he doesn't need RAID I would suggest grabbing a cheap rebranded LSI HBA from eBay. IBM M1015 or a Dell PERC H200. They go around $100-$150'ish.

he has an SSD problem.....where he buys alot of low-end SATA3 SSDs to replace harddrives and he wants bragging rights.
