SSD Cleanup
Maybe I totally imagine this....but I seem to remember certain SSD vendors offering a utility to 'clean up' your SSD. I believe it was just the garbage collection algorithm, but you could force it to run immediately; sort of like defrag for SSDs. I believe it was useful for TRIM-less environments.

Does something like this exist or did I just dream it up?

Samsun has it in their toolkit I know that, I think intel may have it in theirs too

Yeah, Intel definitely had one (toolkit), and I seem to recall OCZ having one as well.

If you do not have access to the software toolkit, manufacturers will typically have the software available on their website. Simple search on their site works wonders.

Is it generally ok to run these?

Yes. Its perfectly fine to run them. I usually set them up to run once a week....even on TRIM capable rigs...just in case. ;)
