But not quite as fast as a dedicated SSD cache drive..

The momentus XT is, from what I heard at it's release a good way to do things if your not looking for cutting edge performance and if it's much cheaper than an ssd and seperate HDD..

yes, its too be expected though. an 8GB read-only cache compared to 32GB+ cache drives (which get to use the CPU horsepower).

personally, the only real use case I've found for those drives are for lappy users with a single drive bay and no opti-bay HDD support(they're pretty popular on notebook forums).

I do have one of 500gb in my laptop, and there's a good difference between regular 7200 hdd, but it's still a lot slower than the ssd I have in my desktop. As Generic User #2 said, I would only recommend those for laptops.
