Did you fail to understand my statement? Did I say Seagate is still crap? I said it flipped back and forth. Case and point, IBM Deskstar line was horrid in terms of reliability but after Hitachi brought them out the quality got better.

Just buy what you need depending on price, warranty, and application. For example, if you need a consumer grade RAID drive, the new WD Red may fit your bill. Or some of the Hitachi drive are tested to be compatible with certain RAID cards. Like everyone said, drives will break eventually so just hope it's still in warranty when they break.

Maybe yes, Maybe no; but I'll say the few that I did RMA were returned very quickly with no questions asked plus a sizable upgrade on capacity.

Unlike some other brands. I can honestly say that BOTH seagate and WD have smooth RMA processes. Which is a BIG reason why both they kicked the other companies OUT of the biz (via borg'ing them or killing them off).
