Damn your seek is all over the place! Maybe you should silently make your HD "unshared". See what the room-mates say then.

I would say it is reasonably similar performance wise to certain single drives. Now, a few 500GB 7200.11 'cudas in a RAID5 setup, that might be useful yet still not *too* expensive.
Here are four drives, the 250GB is PATA and is currently my boot drive because I will be installing OS X on the 500GB SATA one. Need to get at least another 500GB for an in-case duplicate or mirror or something. I also tossed in the two old Seagate ST3491A that I had hanging around just for kicks. I tried to get a RAID0 setup with them going but the Sil0680R card they were on did not seem to want to do it.

Meh, I'm just waiting on another Antec Titan, then I will put my little Storage server into action. I'm thinking of using FreeNAS, see how that works for me!

3 of the 4 drives are now aaks models. big difference. i expect once the 4th is in that they'll be faster than my raptors.

I like the raptors.. I too had a pair of 36 gb first generation raptors in a raid 0 and they were fast. we're they really shine is access time and some benchmarks but I'd like to see them get a update maybe 250 gb or whatever they could cram on the same sized discs with perpendicular recording sata2 and a bigger cache for transfering large files, Now that would be nice. I,m hoping for an update because I'll buy 2 later this year for a new computer I'll build for myself.

Here is a bench of my 2 drives 250gb WD OS/program drive and 250gb Seagate storage drive. I'm still noobish when it comes to translating the info coming from HD Tune, anyone have a simple explanation of what all the numbers mean?
