Which 128GB SSD - OCZ Vertex 4 or Crucial M4 or Corsair Force 3 GT I am getting an SSD and I have narrowed it down to three. I need your help in deciding which one. AkG I could really use your input. 1. OCZ Vertex 4 128GB SATA3 - $129.99 Specs: Sequential Reads 535 MB/s Sequential Writes 420 MB/s Random 4k Read IOPS 90,000 IOPS Random 4k Write IOPS 85,000 IOPS Physical Usable Capacities(IDEMA) 128GB NAND Components 2Xnm Synchronous Multi-Level Cell(MLC) Interface SATAIII/ 6Gbps (backwards compatible with SATA II/ 3 Gbps) Form Factor 2.5 Inch NAND Controller Indilinx Everest 2 DRAM Cache Up to 1GB Dimensons(LxWxH) 99.8x 69.63x9.3 mm Weight 83g Additional Features Performance Optimization TRIM( requires OS support), dynamic and static wear-leveling, background garbage collection) Other Performance Features NDurance 2.0 Technology (Reduced Write Amplification without Compression. Reg. Vertex 4 Stay away, read more here. Perf drop on random write 4kB past 50% utilization. They do have a new FW last friday on their forum but I wouldn't touch it at this point. OCZ Vertex 4 128 GB: Testing Write Performance With Firmware 1.4 : Testing The Effects Of Vertex 4's Firmware 1.4 Crucial M4 128GB SATA 3 - $114.99 Not bad choice, price is good too, sustained performance and performance under different compressible loads is good. SMART output is a but poor compared to Sandforce drives but this is one of the leading choices atm. 3. Corsair Force Series 3 GT 120GB SATA3 - $134.99 Good controller on SF-2281 with decent NAND. You should be able to find cheaper though. Kingston does good promos all the time on their HyperX 3K SSD which should suite you more than enough with 3,000 PE 25nm ONFI 2.x NAND. The SMART on these drives is awesome so you can monitor to your hearts content. If you can find it the SAMSUNG 830 is also good, very stable and very durable. They seem to be on a mission to get competitors out of the market atm so would be a good bet on low pricing. It doesn't matter which one you choose though, they all perform the same in this class (fast). Try benchmarking them and you'll find that they all behave within 3% delta of each other. Price and NAND quality is the first choice here. |
