Default Which Drive to Get As a Storage Drive?

Which one should I get for a storage drive?

I am sticking with WD as I have had bad luck with both Hitachi and Seagate drives in the past.

Here are my choices:

Caviar Black 1TB SATA3 - $129.99
Caviar Green 2TB SATA3 - $139.99
Caviar Black 1.5TB SATA3 - $149.99
Caviar Green 3TB SATA3 - $189.99
Caviar Black 2TB SATA3 - $209.99 (This would be pushing my budget limit)

I do download a lot of TV and Movies. My last 1TB hard drive was my boot drive and storage drive I used just over 600GB

For my boot drive I have a 120GB Mushkin Chronos

Thanks

If you're looking for pure storage, grab a WD Green drive in the size of your choice, plain and simple.

Been using a WD green 1TB for over 1 1/2 years, not a sniff of a problem so far.

This is a shitty time to buy drives. Not only are prices ridiculous, but companies like WD and Seagate have slashed warranties almost across the board. For someone like myself who is putting together a NAS with a shitload of drives, a 1 year warranty is crap, especially for a drive. With that said, the WD greens should be fine for you (I own a couple myself), but the equivalent Hitachi drive (the deskstar) has 3 times the warranty. JUST SAYIN'.

If you think you are going to continue down loading movies I would personally go for the 3TB. This after noon i picked up 2x 3tb 7400rpm barracudas for a 170$. With that being said I am not going to recommend Seagate I've used a multitude of WD greens in the past and have all been perfect. I have to agree with Keywork prices are crap, warranties are just as bad all you can do is get a good sale on a drive.

I would go for the black, but I am super paranoid about having a drive die on me. Size is up to you, but I would not be able to fill my WD black if I wanted to (netflix ftw).

why Green is better than Black for storage apart from prices comparison, is there really a different b/w performance and if I need both for storage and boot, what you would prefer?

And plz tell me is any benefit of separate drives for boot and storage (only HDD m not talking about SSDs)

Black is the performance line. You don't need performance for storage drives. Ergo, don't spend money on features you don't need.

Thanks! Actually its about price and thing you need for, but my point was that if someone owns Black its ok or Green have something unique for storage! :)
