strange phenomenon with HDD
alright, something REALLY weird and theoretically "impossible" happened and i'm wondering what happened.
i have two hard drives in my system. one is a 500gb 7200rpm OS drive and the other is a 2tb 5900rpm storage drive. i moved a 2.5GB folder FROM the 2tb drive TO the 500gb drive and the transfer speeds were weird.
the task was done in a matter of seconds. avg transfer speed was around 250mb/s (not even possible for a hard drive cuz benchmarks show mine does about 110 max) and the peak "burst" speed was about 450mb/s (even some SSDs have trouble reaching that)
i first thought that the burst speed came from the cache. but then i realized that the drives only have like 32/64mb cache each. then i realized that all my drives are hooked up via SATA II connection (3 gigabits)
is this an OS error? but then again, the task was done in a matter of like sub10 seconds. what the......
