Default Question about ssd's and raid

I was talking to someone about doing raid1 with two SSD's for my production server but he said to only do software raid and not the raid on the mobo unless it has a dedicated 256mb raid card or else i'll just make it slow as hell? What should I do :(

Um, thats called BS. Im using my onboard Sata3 controller for a 4-disk Raid 0 w/ SSDs. Insane performance, no problems at all, not once.

well I can tell you that of the options there are, software raid is the absolute worst. it's nice to have a nice big cache for your raid controller.
for a 2 disk raid 1 where there's next to no computing needed, a no cache raid controller will be fine. if you do have a small extra budget, getting a raid controller with a minimal amount of cache would not go unused, but I doubt it will be a massive difference.
