Default Could someone please update me!

I've been overseas for a while with no computer and I'll admit I could read everything posted in the last six months to help me understand what's been happening with SSD's but I'm too lazy. I have a Intel X25-M 80Gb 2GC SSD and I'm happy with the performance but I feel the need to stay current. Could I impose on someone to explain the new generations of Intel SSD's? I have noticed that I can buy a 120gb for $130.00 (Intel SSDSA2CW120G3K5 320 120GB Solid-State Drive - 120GB, SATA). Have these things gotten that much better? I know their cheaper (I paid nearly $310.00 in Jan. 2010 for 80GB) but have they improved to the point where updating is necessary?

If anybody could explain what's happened over the past year please let me know.
Greatly appreciated!
Jim

Not much has happened in SSD lately, intel 510 series is the newest, and best, crutial c300/m4 drives are 2nd best, speeds are pretty much the same, only difference is faster SATA 3 ports on newer mobos.

I would look at the IOPS read/write to check the difference directly.

The average seems to be around 40k and 500/520 for them, Crucial M4-OCZ 3 series such as Agility3/Solid 3/Vertex 3-Corsair Force/Force GT, and Intel 5 series all seem to be the one folks pick.

You may have a benefit of getitng a faster drive by going to somehting newer, but they do want them to use sata 3 and AHCI formated which can make quite a difference, I am not sure directly how much faster it will be then what you are using, so the "worth" of doing so, well thats up to you :)

I dont notice a difference between my 80gb Intel G2, and my Vertex 2 120gig. According to the benchmarks there is, but if there is, I'm missing it ;)

Id imagine going from the Intel G2 to a Vertex 3 (Sandforce 2xxx series chipset) would be slightly noticeable in real world results, IF you're running it on SATA3.

Guys
Thanks for the feedback! I must admit I'm not looking to spend money on a minor improvement but trying to keep up with this stuff is tough. I'll stick with what I have for now.
Happy New Year!
