My System Specs

Default For SSD is SATA 3 worth it over the Sata2

for OS and some games ^^, I guess 120-128GB is around the size I'm considering Dec-Jan, and how hard is it to set up SSD caching on a z68 MB, I have a gigabyte z68xp-ud4 with 1 regular sata3 HDD

I don't think there is much of a price difference between a quality SSD that is 3Gbps SATA or 6Gbps SATA.

the newegg prices are all over the place with a bunch marked down, so I looked at these to as rough price estimate

but terms of the speed, do the real world things get those nice higher numbers of the sata3 types, got christmas money planning to do

Newegg.ca - Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

My vote would be to try to find the best price on the Crucial M4.

re: SSD caching - if you're going with a 120+Gb drive, just put your o/s and critical files on it. It's faster than SSD caching, apparently. Unless you have a 20-60Gb SSD lying around unused, SSD caching isn't worth it.

I forgot about the under 20-60gb part

well than I don't need to bother with caching

Default SSD Sata2 vs SSD Sata3

My personal observation is that Sata3 is slightly faster. I have...

a Zotac AD10 Dual Core 1.6 with 4GB Ram and an OCZ Vertex 3 60GB

and

an Acer Aspire 7750G Quad Core 2.0 with 8GB Ram and an OCZ Vertex 2 60GB.

I find boot time on the AD10 at least as fast as the Acer if not marginally faster. This is based on both having fresh installs of Windows 7 64Bit. Considering the better specs of the Acer, it has to be the SSD.

I have not actually timed them, but on the AD10, the Windows 7 4 color dots that make the Windows flag does not even complete the flag before opening the shell.
