Default SRT? Is it worth it?

I'm in the process or rebuild my rig and the only differences I can see between the P67 and Z68 are the intergrated GPU and the SRT. I'm not to excited by the onboard GPU thing and like some of the P67 boards better but SRT intrigues me.

Is it worth it even if I use a cheap $70 SSD? Can I use SRT with two HDs in RAID 0 (650gb WD Black drives)?

This should cover all your questions;

AnandTech - Intel Z68 Chipset & Smart Response Technology (SSD Caching) Review

Its very thorough on the benefits of SRT.

The answer to both questions is yes.

Excellent, thanks for the responses. Guess that puts the Sabertooth on the discard pile.

ASUS P8Z68-V Pro and Gigabyte Z68XP-UD4 are good options for Z68 in ~$200 range

I really do like the look of the Z68XP-UD4. It's defiantly an attractive looking board. I'm getting really tired of all the pastel colors people are using on their boards now a days. (I'm looking at you Gigabyte and ASUS)

That being said, this SRT is theoretical for me at this point. I do honestly use my PC to play about 4-5 games and do some word processing so it's likely I could see gains from SRT and not have to worry about my applications getting pushed out of the memory buffer. So it begs the question, do I get a board that supports SRT now and buy a SSD later? Or do I ignore SRT all together and buy a P67 based motherboard and sock the SSD money away for a better GPU to replace my aging 4870's.

Well, are 4870's good enough for you? If I where you i'd go z68, SRT and QST two major selling points for me. sadly i can't afford to upgrade every year, so i can't afford to upgrade my i7 860 (which has been very good to me). BTW I HIGHLY Recomend (personally) gigabyte motherboards, that UEFI bios thing is a gimmick unless you got 3TB+ drives, even so, the new gigabyte mobos support 3TB+ HD's anyways. Hey if you wanna do it, get the z68A-UD3+iSSD or something like that with the mSATA SSD built in.

That's my recommendation. Just stick with the 4870's and go z68. if you can, you can always upgrade graphics later, but you won't upgrade your mobo and processor so fast.
