SSD For MSI WIND U100

Mom and dad wanted a Windows XP reboot on their Wind U100 and I am thinking of installing an SSD to help speed it up. It's already got 2GB of ram, so really, only the storage can be upgraded. What a good cheap SATA 2 SSD that would fit this? Only need 60GB at the most.

Get the cheapest SSD you can find that is not SandForce based. You will not get the full power from any SSD as the onboard storage controller is well...low power. Your first concern should be its ITGC abilities. XP means no TRIM...and no TRIM means IDLE TIME is going to be needed to keep it "fast".

TBH I would look at the Vertex PLUS series or the Kingston V series. Both can be found for cheap now. The Indi Martini should be faster than the older JM based controller (toshiba branded) found in the SSDnow V.

Even w/ an SSD it will still be slow, so don't expect too much. But I would probably just go w/ the cheapest drive you can.

Another option you may want to consider is the Seagate Momentus XT 500GB. Its a hybrid drive with 4GB of NAND for increase read performance on the most used data.

No screwing around with TRIM / ITGC, lots of room, pretty good price, etc etc.

w7 will play real nice on 2gb of ram. unless ff will be on with lots of tabs open...itll eat 1gb by itself
