SATA3 on SATA2 mobo question

I just picked up a Western Digital SATA 6Gb/sec 1TB Caviar Black (WD1002FAEX).

I used Acronis TI Home 2010 and cloned over windows 7 ultimate 64bit.

I am noticing that load speeds seem to be about 25% faster than before.

I tried to run the windows experience test but got an error accessing the disk performance.

The mobo is a Gigabyte MA770-UD3 ...
GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket AM2+ - GA-MA770-UD3 (rev. 2.1)

I tried a jumper but ended up putting in on 3-4 which as per the photo below is to enable PUIS but it would not boot so I removed it.



Should I put the jumper on 5-6 or just leave it without jumpers?

Since it is giving me faster load and boot times, should I consider doing something else to it like alignment?

I say leave it like it is, windows experience test really doesn't show much, so if it errors out its not that big of a deal.

Any specifics on the error? You should run an error check on the drive (chkdsk) in case the hard drive is bad or Acronis messed up on the transfer.
As for the jumpers I run my drive (same model) with no jumpers - generally I think if it boots and reports the right size I run with none of the special speed limiting jumpers enabled.

For those curious, this new drive does not incorporate Advanced Format.

So that means you don't have to do any special alignment - what Acronis does by default will be fine, even if it aligned your partition to 32256 bytes. IIRC alignment is only for SSD, the WD Caviar Green ----EARS, and I think one other hard drive from another company.

Do a chkdsk as well - you verified the hardware of the drive with the WD tool, but you still need to verify the partition (aka what's currently stored on the drive). If the chkdsk reports no errors, then I'd just say WEI's benchmark is being dumb and not worry about it
