Crucial M4 256GB SSD Review Comment Thread
Crucial may be a newcomer to Hardware Canucks but their SSDs just happen to be some of the most popular around right now due to their excellent pricing and wide availability. Their newest line of M4-series drives continues down the same path as previous generations but now uses the same Marvel 9174 controller we saw in the Corsair Performance 3. With this kind of pedigree, these SSDs should have performance which is similar to the Corsair drive while retaining some impressive abilities to recover from a degraded state when used outside of a TRIM environment.

The 009 FW was released yesterday which shows huge gains. Sequential reads is now around 515MB/s on the 128GB drive.

Didn't realize Firmware 009 was released. SKY, would you be able to flash the above SSD and re-run a benchmark or two at some point?

Just to bump this thread. I will be posting a review in the near'ish future on 009 firmware improvements. It will be a partial update review (similar to the OCZ Vertex 3 engineering sample vs retail version we did).

Just a quick question. Here's my 128GB M4 with the new firmware. Fresh windows install. Speeds look.... a little low....

SATA 2 or SATA 3 connection?

Keywork September 1, 2011 02:33 PM

SATA 2... I've got an X58 board (GB X58A-UD3R, with Marvel chipset for the SATA 3 ports). From doing some research, I found out i'm better off using the ICH10 Intel ports rather than the Marvel ones. But yea, i'm open to comments to suggestions at this point..
