Adding another SSD to my rig
Hi everyone.

I recently, very recently, bought a new PC. I though that a single 120Gb SSD would be enough but I quickly need some more space.

I currently have an Intel 510 Series 120Gb drive. I want to add another SATA 3 SSD to install and run my games on. I am currently aiming at the OCZ Vertex 3 120Gb drive mainly because of the higher random speed but also because it is slightly cheaper. My budget is <= 300$ before taxes (Canada).

Question 1: Does the OCZ drive makes a great choice? If not, what drive to buy?
Question 2: Intel OS/OCZ Games or Intel Games/OCZ OS?

Current setup

Case: Coolermaster HAF X
PSU: Antec Quattro 850w
Mobo: ASUS P8P67-PRO Rev3.0
CPU: Intel Core i7 2600
Memory: 2x Kingston HyperX 8Gb (Total 16Gb) KHX1600C9D3K2/8G
SSD: Intel Series 510 120Gb
Optical drive: LG Blue-Ray DVD-RW 12x
OS: Windows 7 Pro 64bits

Screen: ASUS VE247H
Keyboard: Logitech K320
Speakers: Logitech Z-323
Mouse: My good old Logitech MX510

I have a 120gb SSD, and only used half of it thus far. I really only loaded 1 game on their because load times are generally pretty good on my RAID array.

I am using a Vertex 2 right now and I can't complain about it. It has not failed on me, the performance is good, and the price is good as well.

And unless you are a stickler for performance, it doesn't matter what OS or Games drive combo you go with.

Maybe you could think about a RAID array for your games...
stuff like 2 X 1TB Western digital Blacks or something like that....(cost around $150 pricematched for both)...

I wouldn't fork another $300 for another SSD.
SSD's are nice for boot drives 60GB to 120GB.....if you need more, go SSD boot+RAID 0....

I had a 2nd SSD 4 games and a 3rd for additional storage, borrowed a friend's so we could c how everything worked while his OCZ psu was in rma. A lot snappier 4 loading, and a bit better than HDD, but

not worth the extra money imho.

As mentioned by another member, though I've haven't tried it yet, 2 1tb WD Blacks in raid would still b pretty darn good, any issues guys?

Thanks everyone, I'll keep that in mind, maybe I'll just RAID 2 Sata 2 drives. I do want a slient rig so I'm kind in between two choice ... geeky rig vs performance rig rofl.

For further analysis if someone posts after that, I do have a 1TB WD Green in a 2 slot NAS (DLink DNS-323) that I use for storage, I could expand to 2TB or 4TB (4 = I would have to replace 1TB drive from NAS)

Thanks again!
