Default Vertex 3 + USB-SATA dock = not recognized?

So, this is quite an odd issue I've been having with all Vertex 3's, even brand new. I have a Vantec USB HDD dock. It can pick up the original Vertex, Vertex 2s, but not a Vertex 3.

Can anyone else confirm if it's just a device incompatibility or (SATA3 SSD + SATA2->USB = fail)?

Is the vantec dock sata 6 capable. Ive seen issues crop up when using ANY sata 6 ssd on a sata 3 dock. I dont why as they should just back rev...but sometimes they dont and get all bitchy.

Yank the drive, stick it internally, see if it is recognized. IF it is...its the dock. If not...its the ssd. :)

Of course ALL the Vertex 3s I tried work internally. It's just weird, makes for testing when I'm selling or trying to back up data a big PITA.

Dunno why it won't work. SATA3 devices should be properly backwards compatible to avoid problem as I've experienced.

Yeah I know what you mean. Royal PITA. :(

Yup they should be back reving and always are internally. My guess...you got a Sata 3gb/s JMicron based external dock. Thus the prob as I try to avoid that companies external controllers chips like the plague. Pickup up a cheap USB 3.0 ASmedia controller based one. Problem should go away. ;)

Thanks man. I'll do that. I'm not too keen on opening my box every time I need to use an SSD.
