Default Comment thread for Mediasonic Enclosures Review

Canada-based Mediasonic sent us a pair of their sweet RAID enclosures to take a look at and that is exactly what we have done. AkG belts out another of his great reviews and puts both enclosures through the wringer.

Check out the review here: Mediasonic Dual Bay RAID Hard Drive Enclosures Review

Default Modification Possibilities?

I am curious, I wonder if one could purchase the HUR1-SU2 and simply buy the TI TSB81BA3D firewire chip that the HUR1-SU2FWB uses at digikey (currently ~$14). Solder that onto the PCB + a firewire 800 port (~$5). Would probably need to cut a hole in the case with a dremel. But perhaps you could save +$50 or so in the process. Granted you do have to go through the hassle of soldering a 80-TQFP and modifying the case.

Thoughts anyone?

To release a brand new product to market.. without USB3, or at least e-sata connections? damn.

Price point is nice and all - good and cheap.

Default Mediasonic External Enclosure Review

I think the review was good. I would like to see a review of their newer dual bay drive with USB 3.0 though. I wonder if you could do one soon? It is difficult or impossible to get data transfer rates for RAID 1 from manufacturers.

I was going to comment on how it's not on the front page but I just noticed... this review is from 2008
