Default dvd drive

my friend asked me about which is best drive... honestly i have no idea about dvd drive since i never use them...

so i looked up at price and review... lg, poineer and nec seem best and reliablity brand... and i found cheap as well

Buy LG Electronics [GH24LS50] LG GH24LS50 24X Super Multi Lightscribe SATA DVD Writer OEM Black
Buy LG Electronics [GH22NP20 (BLACK)] LG GH22NP20 Black DVD+RW 22X8X16 DVD-RW 22X6X16 DL 16X/12X 2MB IDE OEM

which is good for him... he just needs basic... non-bluray drive...

thanks...

The Sony NEC branded drives are supposed to be really good.

But really, they all work the same IMO. I have a Pioneer, LG and Samsung in my house and all seem to be working fine.

I'm impartial to brand, but if he plans on keeping the drive for a few more builds down the road, going with the SATA DVD drive makes sense.

I just got one of these $20 at newegg pm'd at ncix Sony Optiarc 24X DVDRW DVD Writer SATA OEM 7260s. It's supposed to have the nec chip inside, it's fairly quiet and it burns well.

I have a couple samsung going too, they work ok.

A pioneer burner I bought was a pioneer 109 or 10x something, basically it was a farce, nothing but trouble.

It would work just as well, the Lite-On's are popular for budget desktops. Honestly as long as it can read and write.. yeah.
