My System Specs

Default What would you do? C400 vs. waiting for SF-2000

Hi all,

So I'm starting to feel like it's time to swap out my 4xRAID0 array of Kingston SSDNow V-series drives. They've treated me very well and made for a great entry-level SSD RAID array. But their all-important 4k performance really lags behind the rest of what's now available and I'd really like the real-world performance upgrade of improved 4k speeds rather than the quasi-synthetic improvements RAIDing these particular Kingston drives delivers.

So... I know Crucial's M4 drives based on Micron's new C400 series are scheduled to be available within the next few weeks. I've read up on them, and it looks like they will boast some pretty awesome performance numbers in and around the tasty $1.60/GB pricepoint.

However, the initial numbers I've seen bandied about for the new SandForce SF-2000 controller promise to put drives like the M4 to shame. Problem is, SF-2000 isn't expected to be available until Q3-ish.

So what would you do? Buy the M4's soon and enjoy the excellent price/performance ratio they will provide, or stick with the Kingstons for now and wait until the next major performance boost with SF-2000?

If it matters, my system specs are:

i7 875k
EVGA P55 FTW
4x2GB GSkill DDR3-2000
LSI 9211-8i

The thing about the SF-2000 numbers you have seen are for compressible data. Non-compressible data is substantially lower. I'd just go w/ the Crucials.
