If I am right Pioneer stopped doing DVD burner last year pushing on the blu-ray. Have done few search on the web and can only find some 218D on wierd site like blank media. They are for sure good unit. If you can find one this would be the choice but if you can't samsung is your best friend.

The Pioneer 217D was Pioneer's last good DVD burner. The 218L sucks. I had it and it does not have an NEC chipset. It uses a Mediatek one instead, so no Optimum Power Calibration. It is really a Pioneer in name only. And it died in 6 months after using it like 10 times. Started giving me "successful" burns that would have missing pit marks and not verify successfully.

My 212D is still going strong BTW.

I would at this point either buy a Pioneer BluRay drive as those are supposed to be excellent. For my latest build I threw in an Sony Optiarc AD-7260S. Seems good so far, and it should have NEC guts since Sony bought them out.
