Default How long to defrag HDD?

I started about 10 hours ago and it's still not done. I have WDGreen 500GB. It shows 50% full right now, but I remember it was something else last night. IDK, I've never defragged a single HDD before, so please help me out. Thanks,.

The Engineers who built the Defrag system said themselves that they decided to make the defragger basically "give up" at a certain point, because trying too much will (a) wear out the hard drive and (b) not gain any performance, so why bother.

Read the details in their own words here:

Disk Defragmentation

Try defragger after you've done a disk cleanup:

If your using windows defrag its useless.

Use one made by Auslogics and its a good, quick, and free one.

If this is your first defrag it will take a wile. :(
You can leave computer on sign in screen fore 5 to 10 hours it will defrag also.
When yuour drive gets to 10 % fragmented its time to defrag.

You could also try mydefrag (formerly JKdefrag). I've found it to be the best one I've tried. It's also free.

Thats it right there, the first one takes a while, after that, its really quick (from seconds to a few minutes at the most).
