2 hard drive failures in one year...and a 3rd coming

Seagate 7200.11 ( most likely the 500GB ) had a little issue. They die dead fast. Ultra PSU are crap so I wont be surprise if the issue is from there. Also, are you running these drive in raid 0? this could be the issue.

Not raid single drive...just gave another $6 bucks to Canada Post to ship the dead Hitachi.

Maybe I'll switch the Ultra to a corsair come xmas see how things go, but my PSU tester says its still good and no crazy voltage spikes. ITs great for keeping my toes warm during winter haha

Back in the PATA/IDE days I never had these things fail on me but then again those were Maxtor and WD days when BIG was 80gb

Yeah, I like it too. Problem I have is my hair stays straight up after letting go. Yeah, yeah, yeah, got a charge outta that huh?!

i don't know where you live
but if you have dirty power or if you have power outages because of storms...that can cause issues with hard-drives
and other parts

i lost 2 hard-drives because of living in an area with lots of storms. gotta love the prairies

i bought myself an UPS (un-interrupted power supply)
since then i've never had a hard-drive go bad. been 5 years now

I've been using two Seagate 7200.12 1TB drives in my system for about 6 months now and haven't had problems with them. Which model is yours? Like the others said the 7200.11s had the most problems, but the newer 7200.12s are generally pretty reliable.

I finally got around to doing the firmware upgrade on a 500GB 7200.11 Seagate that I've had for a little over two years. No problems with it, but it's going on a bus ride tomorrow, have an aunt and uncle who are in dire need of a new computer, so I'm sending them one of my six desktops. However, since the late '08 bsy bug, I've switched over to WD, where I used to mostly get Seagates, haven't had any issues with the blacks or greens, and now that I think of it, I've never bought a blue. Hmm, good excuse for buying a few more drives?

These PSU tester only power the PSU on the lowest power they can provide. The best way to know is a multimeter in the 24pin ATX while the computer is working. Then you have an idea of how the PSU work under load.
