Get a 1tb or wait for ssd?!

I do animation/graphic design and various other digital art as well as digital photography.

Currently I have a Western Digital Caviar Black 640gb used as OS/Storage drive. I have a 250gb external I back my essential stuff up on as well but I'm getting to the point where I need more storage. I would like to get a Samsung Spinpoint F3 or the like.

Then I was thinking maybe a better way to go would be just get another Caviar Black 640gb for now until the 128gb ssd prices come down. Which will hopefully happen a bit after christmas/boxing day. Then RAID the 640's.

Your titles states you're thinking about getting a 1TB drive but you say you're thinking about getting another 640gb WD Black? Either way, if you're running out of disc space and you're waiting for 128gb SSD prices to drop then just buy another HDD now cause I mean a 640gb Black is what like $40? Might as well. And you can still wait for SSD prices to drop.

Get a 64GB SSD or more for boot drive and use your 640GB as storage.
you could RAID the HDDs (when you buy more) for backup purposes, but all in all, nothing compares to SSDs...unless you speak of server environment...

IMHO, RAID (unless used for backup or servers), doesn't compare to SSDs anymore. If you do a LOT of writing to disk, HDDs are better tho.

concentrate on getting your applications and OS on a SSD and enjoy...

If you need more mass storage, you'll wait years before SSD's become a viable option in that respect.
