Default External HDD cutting out

I just bought a seagate 2tb hdd and a vantec nexstar CX enclosure. The enclosure was basically the cheapest in stock at canada computers that did esata so that could be part of the issue. In the process of backing up my files to it for an extended write the data stops transferring and the activity light on my old external as well as this one stop flashing. Then the 2tb drive disappears from windows and i have to power cycle it and rescan for it.
Both externals are hooked up by esata, the drive model # for the 2tb is ST32000542AS. Seems like it could be the chipset on the enclosure since the drive itself is only getting up to 40c. Any ideas of what could be causing it would be great
