The Crucial C300 is a very fast, well priced drive. Its read speeds are second to none, including 4k tests. Write speeds are a bit average, but for $150 this drive is hard to beat.

i've never read that anywhere, the intel X25-M is supposed to be the best of the bunch in terms of overall performance. U have a link to the above?

Interestingly though, I also found this:

Nonetheless, the intel X25-V was the only one in my pricerange, and the speeds scaled with capacity.
