Beginner Builder, Optical Drive Questions
This is my very first build and I have a few questions that I want to clear up. (Havn't got my parts in the mail yet.)

I read somewhere that before some optical drives work they need to install drivers. Is this true for all optical drives?

Is there anyway to set up the optical drive in the BIOS to work without the drivers?

If my optical drive doesn't work, how do I install the OS?

Thanks for the help in advanced.

Almost modern systems & OSes don't require any drivers installed for any optical drive/HDD.

You want to set the SATA to AHCI in the bios. But besides that you shouldn't need to do anything.

Well you'll need to get a copy of Windows 7 on 3 1/2" floppy...

Nah... you'll be fine. I don't think I've needed optical drivers since Windows 95.

Just drop this line into your autoexec.bat!

But anyway, yeah, just plug it in and it'll work. Buy a SATA drive and then you won't have to mess with master/slave crap on IDE rom drives.
