Default Best HDD setup for gaming/storage - NON SSD

What's the best arrangement for harddrives for both gaming and storage? Basically, what's the fastest HDD to use for gaming while not being expensive? Not going with an SSD just yet.

This is what I was currently thinking..

1tb Samsung Spinpoint F3 - $75 - main/games/apps
2TB Western Digital Green - $120 - music/movies

Is there a better option? Like a faster driver or should I just use 2 1tb spinpoints in Raid 0?

Also, I'm bit of a raid newb. Is it possible to have say 2 spinpoint f3 500gbs in Raid 0 and then then WD green not in a raid?

My System Specs

Default

Buy Western Digital [WD1002FAEX] Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA3 6GB/S 7200RPM 64MB Cache 3.5IN Dual Proc Hard Drive OEM
1TB SATA 6Gbps WD Black. 2 500GB platters. This is the fastest you'll see 7.2k until 667GB platters hit the table.

Is the 1tb version faster than the 640gb version?

Yes. These are 500GB platters. Those are 320GB platters.

Makes sense. It's a 50/50 really. Some say go for the F3 which apparently uses 2 500gb platters and others suggest the WD lol

The new VRaptor will be on the market in a couple months, or so I have heard (no idea besides rumours). In the mean time either the wd 1tb black or a 2tb black would be the way I'd go...IF I had the money ;)

edit:

With all THAT being said. If you are not running an OS on the hdd....the difs will be minor at best and for storage only devices damn near ANY hdd will be good. 320platter vs 500platter = minor dif = "meh" to me. Pick the one that best fits your budget and size needs....and enjoy. YMMV

yup, the sammys are / were faster then the older wd blacks in sequential write speeds. No idea on them vs the newer wd ones as i been shying away from sammy after having a couple bad ones. I know its biased of me....but getting burned by three for three (all from dif batches...all dead within a month of each other) will do that to a person. I'll prolly break down and get a few in another year or so. ;)
