Default enclosure for SATA 2?

I'm wondering what is a good enclosure for HDDs. Is a passive aluminum enclosure still okay? How do I know if it will support SATA 2 speeds? If I go with eSATA and a 'Green' drive for storage, I'll want the fastest speed I'm allowed, right?

I have a Vantec NexStar 3, currently, with a drive. It gets a bit warm but I think it's okay. Somebody on Newegg says those enclosures don't support Sata II. Huh?

Anyway, I hope someone can recommend some. I will want to get one when I buy a drive. I thought if I go with a 'green' drive, I don't need an enclosure with a fan. If I bought a standard HDD at 7200rpm, I might want one with a fan? My HDD in the Vantec I have now is a standard HDD but I think the temps are acceptable....hopefully...

Which enclosures do you recommend?

You really don't need SATA 3Gbps support in an external enclosure anyways as the drive won't hit those speeds. I've used plenty of the Nexstars w/o any issues.

I'm currently using the Nexstar with a regular 500 gig hard drive using esata, and it works great. I keep forgetting it's esata until I go to use a USB2 external ... big speed difference obviously.

Okay, sounds good. Now, I have to decide on a drive.

Not sure I want to go with a WD EARS drive or not.

I guess I was really asking about an enclosure because my drive choices are these:

WD15EARS or Samsung F2 EcoGreen (any capacity) or Samsung F3 1TB (a 7200rpm drive)

I like this one, although I never used it personally:

Antec Veris MX-1 Actively Cooled External 3.5IN Hard Drive Enclosure USB2.0 eSATA Black
Reg price is $59.99 tho, could be PMed to around $49.99

I have a Seagate Freeagent 1TB USB that I MIGHT upgrade to a MX1 enclosure, if transfer speeds from USB to eSATA are worth it.

The EARS has the bigger cache than the EADS, but a green is a data drive anyway. I picked up a couple of the 2TB in the nicx sale last week, mounted one internal, swapped it out with my 150GB raptor data drive, holds so much more eh. The problem with external enclosures is always heat, not sure if I'd trust a passive cooling system, for a sealed type external, I'd want some fannage. What I've had for a few months is one of the dual drive Thermaltake BlacX's which can be used usb or e-sata. However, I rarely use it, internal is much healthier for the drives.
As mentioned above, e-sata is the way to go, much faster than the usb interface. And, as an added bonus, when your drive appears toasted, diagnostics and recovery progs run much better when the connection is e-sata. No extra level of translation back and forth through the usb.
