Default SSDs - Raid 0 worth going for?

Hi everyone,

NCIX has an excellent deal on OCZ Vertex's 30GB drives (going for $85 after MIR) and I was thinking in buying it. Would you say there would be a decent jump in performance if I set them up in RAID 0? Or should I use the money of buying 2 and just buy 1 with a higher capacity?

I'm afraid 30GB is too little, can barely install anything in here besides the O.S and maybe 1 - 2 games.

I'm also looking for some reliable benchmarks for SSD drives if you happen to have some links handy for me to look at :)

Regards,
Manuel

There will be an increase in transfer rates. However I have found that in most tasks the gains aren't there.

I did a small comparision @ xtremesystems that can be found here.

Page might not load currently as XS has been having issues this morning.

Yeah still seems to be down, I'll check it out as soon as it comes back up. In your personal opinion would you go with 2x 30GB RAID 0 or 1x 60GB Drive?

I'd go single 60GB personally.

+1 To Linus's idea. Much better to get one good drive you can afford now....and add a second one later if need be then to get two small ones now.

YMMV but I'd pick up a 60GB Agility or 60GB Vertex if my budget was $170.

go with the 60gb because trim can not be past in raid on wether to go in the vertex or agility, go vertex for trim in win 7

+1 to akg and linus idea and i just did some dirty raid0 vs clean raid0 and i can tell you there not much difference at all. in fact the slow down is not even noticeable to the os only benchmarks. i run raid0 ssd's all the time because i can.

I'll buy the 60GB for sure. It's in for $210 right now at NCIX. Bastards had it for $160 22 days ago, could use that price back again!

give $ 25 more ( about the price you will pay for shipping ) and you will get a 80 GB

Newegg.ca - Intel X25-M Mainstream SSDSA2M080G2XXX 2.5" 80GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - SSD
