Default Windows is wearing out my poor blackie 1tb?

Hey guys, I've been using Ubuntu for a while but I've switched (unfortunately) to win7 after I got my gaming rig. I was wondering, is it because of this damn ^@#@ piece of @%$#&$ OS that my drive is seeking all over the place making loud noises during the windows 'idle'? Is there any way to stop this stupid OS from exploiting my hdd? I'm pretty sure it's not the firmware doing this, since modern firmwares are made to error check in (virtual) silence...

If anyone knows how to turn off this stupid 'feature' (cough) of win7 that wears out my hdd, you'd be my (hdd's) hero

1- Open my computer
2 -Right click on C
3 -properties
4 -clear "Allow Indexing Service.... "
5- apply
6 - return to Ubuntu if 7 is too crapy for you . we are very much happy with it here

It's most likely Windows being busy, doing... stuff. You know. There's simply lots more going on in Windows than Ubuntu... also Black's are rather loud and that may just be the drive itself, not necessarily the OS.

Also, its mostly only the first 2 weeks that Windows 7(or Vista for that matter) will seek and thrash your drive as it index's during idle times.

Once all the indexing and whatnot is not, you'll notice not only a slight speed improvement, but all the disk thrashing will stop. Its just how Windows 7(and Vista for that matter) optimize and speed them selves up during the first little while you have it in operation.

Orrrr, you could just disable disk indexing, but I don't recommend it, disk indexing is a god send, instant search results ftw!
