Default Damaged part on Raid Controller

I have 2 questions.

1. What is this (i think is some sort of coil transformer)
2. since part of the top part is broken but the coil it self seems fine should i be worried.

The controller is a used Dell PERC 5/i. The seller is not making it easy and basically buyer beware. Unfortunately my only other choice is to either have it repaired, chance it on another controller or buy a new 8 port sas/sata raid controller for the 450-700 bucks it's going to cost me.

Here is a pic of the damage. The controller does pass a post test (tested it in my p5q pro)

I would bet you it's fine, my opinion. Either way, the repair would be cheaper than any other option anyway.

I'd bet my money on it being just fine, despite being chipped, the coil(the important part) looks fine. I've had plenty (old, scavenged, dumpster dived, etc)electronic parts which have had parts(coils, capacitors, etc) nicked/ripped off, even missing entirely at times, work just fine.

I'd still try and get a refund or exchange, but if thats not possible, enjoy your new card.

i think so to. He offered to have it exchanged but another $50 in shipping costs isn't really worth it for me.
