I have a single rail corsair 400 watt supply running 22 1TB hard drives (mix of seagate and WD). I have PERC5 and PERC6 cards and they do allow for staggered spin (at least both my PERC5/E and PERC6/E do).

Lcdguy!
What hard drives did you end up using?
How do you like the chassis, does it come with hardware to mount it to a rack? And where did you find it for 151$, cheapest i see is 176. Also is it really worth it to have the kingwin hot swappable bay? It would be nice to have, but is the convenience worth 160$?
Thx

Well i ended up with the WD black edition drives. They work quite well with the drive. As for the case i believe i got it from NCIX and pricematched it. It may have changed since i bought it though. One word of note on the networking side for me to get bonding working it required me to purchase a smart or managed switch since i have no other need or desire for spending another $400-$700 on a switch i moved the raid card and HDD to my main rig which now has a very snappy 3.69 TB Raid 10 array . I still have the case BTW. On the rack mount ability of the case. It does have the screw holes and mount holes on the side for rails but it does not come with rails. Also when i was doing the purchasing NCIX did not carry the proper rails for this case. If your planning on rack mounting i would consider getting either the chenbro case or a super micro case with a SAS back plane.

Well the 455a00 just went on sale at ncix for 125.. cheap price is temping. For rackmount cases though, the bars that support the sides of the chassis, what are they called? Ive seen rails that allow you to slide it out, but are there rigid ones? The other cases you suggested with the built in backplane, do those include the functionality of the kingwin unit, so its not necessary to get 1 of those as well?

What would you recommend? (sale price /drool)
NCIX.com - Buy Compucase RA455A00 EATX Server Case 4U 6X5.25 3X3.5 2X3.5INT Black - RA455A00 In Canada.
125$

CHENBRO RM422 4U SRVR NO PSU - RM42200 RM42200
184$

well either the chenbro or the compucase are fine. When i mentioned the built in backplane i was referring to the supermicro cases with SAS back planes they are much more expensive though. The kingwing units are nice but if you want the lights to function you can't use SATA power connectors you need to use the included power adapters.
