Yes, but with 4 in raid 0, even though your read speeds topped out at 650mbs (the ich10 peak), your write speeds gained. You can take writes all the way up to 650 too.

My next upgrade will be another vertex 60gb and an Areca controller.

I'm preaching the glory of SSD's too. Falls on a lot of deaf ears around here. Some people look at the cost per GB and without trying one they don't understand the huge difference it makes.

I've got that x25-m in a lenovo tower at a clients, I'm qualifying it for an 85 workstation rollout they are doing in the fall. I was showing a user some stuff in word and outlook and they asked me what kind of supercomputer did I get you lucky bastard. Exact same pc as they had.

It's like comparing a Lada with a Ferrari.

"But a Lada holds twice as many people as a Ferrari and it's so much cheaper."

Sure, both will get you to your destination... eventually.

I may be deaf, well, almost, but I hear and agree with you 100%, I'm just dirt poor and unemployed is all!

The 30gb vertexes are on for $109.

I was looking at 4 of them but it's one per customer.

Correction, were on sale, all gone now. Gotta check the ncix weekly specials on Wednesday man.

I check NCIX every week, but next week sometime is when I'm pulling the trigger. Incidentally NCIX is out of the sale price, but TigerDirect has them now for $114.99 after MIR; another good price.

I believe it is only a matter of a couple years and HDD will be gone and out of sight. Why? Well they are drastically coming down in price and are going to vastly improve on capacity. Come on it is like a year since SSD's came into the market and we are already at 1TB SSD's in the works. Tell me how long it took HDD's to go from 5mb to 2TB. In probably 1 year from now you can buy a 500GB SSD for under $200. SSD's may even become cheaper then HDD's in the long run. SSD's are faster, will have the capacity to hold more, and are more reliable. What is not to love.

They are tiny and light and make almost no heat. Barely feel warm. And no moving parts.

I have my doubts this will ever happen. NAND is cheap, but it will never be cheaper than a mechanical drive to manufacturer. 34nm has dropped prices considerably, however it is still very expensive. I have my doubts we'll see anywhere near even $1/GB within the next year or likely even two years.

I bought a 32GB SSD in Novemeber 2008 for around $120. And they are still around the same price.
