My System Specs

Default dvd drive on its side.

will it be damaging to the drive if i run it on its side in a case layed over.

Absolutely not. Most, if not all ROM drives actually have little hooks in the tray so that you can do exactly that.

I'm also doing it now, on 2 machines.
