but the black ports seem to be dead too...that is my questioning as well...I meant it was a common problem with Seagate because the link you gave me says sometimes the firmware can help but how can it help if the drive is not detected, it cant be installed I guess.
anyway....i think i will buy a good old Maxtor IDE if they still make them....I wonder if a IDE SATA converter could do the trick...i will bring the drive in the store where I bought the card to see if they can see its dead or not.

Well the firmware update is possible if the drive is still functioning properly, unfortunately it's too late for that now.

Western Digital is what I use myself. Maxtor was bought out by Seagate.
