So any suggestions on what to do?

How can I test this? Do I have to format?

All these expensive SSDs and they;re having trouble measuring up to my short-stroked R0. Not worth the extra money yet IMHO, unless you need single-disk performance.

I'd like to see any combination of $200 of hard drives, sdd or otherwise, beat those scores...

@Zlojack: I'd suggest trying out your SSDs individually in another system with the installed OS on a separate disk. Then you can test the read/write speeds of each and still rebuild your array after the testing.

yes we know that you can beat them with RO drives and lots of noise too. this is ssd benchmarks and tweaks. (off topic i was thinking about doing this for my htpc. never done it is it hard and could you show me a guide if there's one thank cm) nice benchmarks mate

Noise.... Whoa... A single silent fan easily drowns out the sound of the 4 short stroked drives. If you think about it, because the drives are shot stroked the heads barely move at all when seeking, making them far quieter than regular hard drives. Also, the 7200.12s im using are single platter and very quiet already, hehe. I'll post a quick "How-to" on my Behemoth build log. No more OT for me on this thread though, sorry.

What I like about SSD is the fast application lauching, wich you dont have with the RAID of mechanical drives. Look at your 0.5, 1 and 2 numbers. They dont compare. For sequential read, I agree, money wise mechanical drives still win.

BUT IMO, the point of this discussion is not comparing mechanical vs SSD is looking at what we have and how it should perform.

Why not post an Iometer run the way I posted? Watch your RAID0 array get creamed. And likely by 500-1000 times over. If max throughput is what you are going for yes, a RAID0 HDD array will be faster. But that is not why SSD's are faster. Almost all read/writes done on a system are random 4k or smaller writes. Which is why SSD's stomp them. A single X25-M is WAY faster than my 14 disc array.

thanks cm and never thought of that about the heads of the hd when short stroked. quote:BUT IMO, the point of this discussion is not comparing mechanical vs SSD is looking at what we have and how it should perform.correct mate

Still half the price... But anyways, as i myself even mentioned, this is OT. hehe. Me = not talking aonymore about SSDs on this thread. hehe.

.... And get write caching working darn it!
