Default Would this setup cause my southbridge to shoot up in flames?

Hey guys,
I got a Rampage II Extreme running a core i7 920 @ 4GHz 1.27vcore.
I'm working on a storage solution that looks like this:
3x WD Black 640 in Raid 0 for OS/Applications
3x WD Green 8mb 1TB drives in Raid 5 for Data

Would this be completely overkill for the onboard controller?

I wouldn't expect much performance from it but I don't think it'll do any harm.

You should consider a dedicated, hardware RAID card if you can afford one, otherwise you won't be getting optimal performance out of the RAID5 or the RAID0 IMO.

I've seen some pretty nice figures coming from the Matrix controller.
I'm planning on slicing the black drives to 100gb each to get the most performance out of them. I've seen HD Tune benchmarks with average throughput in the mid 300's and 8ms response time using the same setup.
I just don't know how much the onboard controller can handle. I got plenty of cpu power, so i'm not worried about cpu utilization.
I might get a dedicated controller card sometime in the future. I've looked into the perc 5/i, but i have mixed feelings about that controller.
