A Good DVD-DL drive?

I can't speak for any other brands, but I've had LG's, Samsung's, and Asus. The Asus is the one in my personal box because it's the quietest. I'd recommend Samsungs anytime, too, they're just louder. Never had a coaster with either brand.

Asus is a rebranded Pioneer if I recall.

Go with a $30 LG... I've never had one fail, got sucked into a pioneer once for twice that and it didn't always work.

If you don't mind spending a bit more (lot more?), and would like to look further into the future, I am very very impressed with my Plextor PX-B310SA. It is a Blu-Ray ROM and DVD/CD burner, but it is fast and quiet. At $173 at Newegg.ca, you can buy a LOT of LG or Pioneer drives for the same money, but you do get Blu-Ray.

If I could ever find any more Plextor PX-716SA's, I would grab them. That may have been the best drive Plextor ever put out.

As to non-Plextors, the LG 22x SATA I have settled down and has been working well.

Bleh, I'll get "Blu" (notice the incorrect spelling ) -ray once games, and the MAJORITY of games start coming out on one or more blu-ray disc, sometime around 5 years from now. "Blu"-ray...PFFFT!

I've had good bouts with LG and HP drives. They last long. They burn right. And they do what they are supposed to do lol.

From what I've heard, Plextor's are the best burners to get. Myself, I have a Lite-On DL, Lightscribe, etc burner and it has worked out flawlessly for me. I've always bought Lite-On and never had any issues with them.

Well, since it's been necro'd anyway, I like Samsung drives. Been good to me so far. Have been a fan of Lite-On and LG, but was getting a rash of failures.....

My Plextor has never failed doing a perfect burn on DVD's, it does have problems sometimes with burning data CD's.
