I have a friend who is using a stardom HDD enclosure, its a 2 bay enclosure that fits right into the 5.25" bays in the case and gives you the option to hotswap your HDD is currently in a mirrored raid setup. He is hopeing to be able to use the system as is then at the end of the day take out one drive and remove it from the office... so if there is a fire or anything he will have a backup. the only problem is that everytime he puts the HDD back in the RAID has to rebuild which takes almost 2 hours. and he dosen't have the time to do this everyday. Does anyone else have a better solution for this? I haven't had much experience with raid or hot swappable HDD's

Make sure the computer is shut off "before" he removes the drive, and isnt restarted before the drive is reinstalled.

And by shut off, you have to hit the switch on the power supply.

Or, some raid controllers allow you to mark the drive as good manually. When the controller detects a drive removal it automatically flags it for a rebuild, even though they are still identical. But you can't leave the server running after hot swap anyways as it will write stuff to the disk even if no one is using it. Thus forcing you to rebuild.
