Lenovo slim DVD-ROM IDE adapter trouble
2 Attachment(s)
Hi guys!

I'm working on a sff mini-itx based system, and I picked up a used Lenovo slim laptop DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive (model # UJDA775), with the hope of using it for the build. I knew I would need some sort of adapter, so I picked up one of these:

Laptop/Notebook Slim DVD / CD to IDE Adapter , mini ITX - (eBay.ca item 260359432899 end time 10-Mar-09 15:51:48 EDT)

(see picture 1)

Unfortunately, it arrived, and I find that it doesn't fit! I'm sure the problem is bound to be PEBKAC related, but I'm hoping it doesn't amount to the DVD drive having some unique interface that basically means I'm hooped.

I'm adding two pictures to this, one of the adapter I bought, and one of the actual connector on the back of the DVD drive I have. Any advice for my completely clueless self would be appreciated.

I have a spare CDRW\DVD-ROM Lenovo drive. Give me a bit and I will pull it apart. I think the connector on the back is proprietary, but plugs into a standard connector. Back soon.

Okay, I took it apart and I was wrong. The connector is soldered onto the PCB. Here are pics:

Thanks for checking it out for me...Now I just have to find out a)if there IS an adapter, and b) if it's even worth trying to find one...Unfortunately, I don't think I have a hope in hell of sandwiching in a standard size drive in my build. Fark.

I will take a look through a couple of electronic component catalogs tonight and see if I can find a connector that fits. If so, then you could build your own using wire, instead of traces on a PCB. I will post back later today, or tomorrow.

Thanks again! I've googled, of course, but a good solid hour of searching different criteria came up with nothing.

Okay, I had a chance to take a look and it looks like DigiKey might be able to hook you up. Go to http://www.digikey.com, on the left menu, click on Product Index and on the next page click on the live chat in the upper right corner. Once you are chatting with a tech, you can direct him to the pics on photobucket. It would help to have a vernier caliper or machinist ruler. Hope it works out for you.
