DVD drive wont open

Ive got an older ide dvd burner in my pc atm, ill likely buy a new one anyways since this one is white and looks like crap in my case but the door on it wont open. I push the button and itll open about a millimetre then stop. Tried prying it open with a screwdriver and that wouldnt work lol. There MAY be a disc jammed inside or something, if i were to take it apart is there any way to get into that part of the drive to remove it without destroying it?

Straighten out a paperclip and put it in the little hole for the manual release.

no paperclips but i tried a pen, maybe it wasnt long enough. And the drive does attempt to open its almost like its getting stuck on something though. Ill try using the manual release when i get home later

You have to push it in about an inch...sometimes more. If it only comes out a touch, then stops...it does sound jammed, and the paperclip will likely just bend. You can try taking the front door-panel off..just slide it upwards gently. That may enable you to see in enough, or even to get something stronger in there to sort of "pry"(carefully) it open. I have a feeling that you'll be buying a new drive either way... and at only ~$25... that shouldn't hurt too much. GL

ya i took it apart lol, no disk in there it just seems jammed for no reason. Likely going to just borrow my sisters dvd drive since she doesnt use it at all really and i burn her dvds all the time, at least until i buy a new one anyways.

Best way is to turn off your PC and the power - then try the emergency pinhole method, pushing the paperclip or pin completly in until you press the release button that is inside, once the door starts to pop out, pull it manually, gently, and it should slide out.
