Default SSD RAID0 comparison (ARC-1220, Perc5/i, ICH10R)

In this thread I'll be posting up my various benchmarks of my 4x Patriot SSD results. Results may be posted slowly do to me going on vacation later on today. Will be testing with the ICH10R, Dell Perc 5/i flashed to an LSI 8480E (w/ BBU), and an Areca ARC-1220 (w/ BBU).

I'll be starting with the ICH10R since I haven't got the Perc 5/i to play nice with the EX58-DS4 yet and the Areca hasn't arrived yet.

ICH10R single drive results:

ICH10R, 2 drive RAID0, 128k stripe

errr, besides the ATTO bench, the results are worse than a single drive . Hopefully the 128k stripe is the culprit.

wow, reads are a bit better than 128k, but reads are just awful

ICH10R, 2 drive RAID0, 4k stripe

So the 4k stripe ended up being the best performer showing a 45% increase of speeds for reads, and ~ 80% increase in write speed.

Very interesting. Clearly not a plug n'forget affair with these SSD's. If I manage to go that route in the near-future, I can see I'll have some pre-testing to do myself.

Aren't those Patriots advertised as having a max read of 175MB/s? Not quite managing those speeds, even at max, and definitely a little weak in the RAID scaling. Be interesting to see whether it's the ICH10R that's responsible or not.

I have no idea what the specs state . But I've never seen SSDs manage what they claim. The write speeds are a rather good increase in RAID0. And even the read speeds are decent compared to most HDD RAID0. Although I do hope for an increase for both with a real controller.

I am definately looking forward to this overview! I am looking into getting the Areca 1210 myself really soon, and would really like to know how it performs! Could you make a chart after you finish your comparisons?
