Yeah..technically that would be true. I have a 640 original(6400AAKS-which would be blue now), and a 640 Black(6401AALS). I see no discernible difference between the two, and they both bench pretty-much the same.The only difference is the Black's minimum transfer rate beats the Blue, with (a consistant)59MB/s vs. the Blue's 55-56MB/s.

Green is useful for mass storage, back-ups, or for external application (external enclosure), or if you are just an environmentally conscious person.

Otherwise black > all.

Thanks for all the useful info on the green vs. black vs. blue issue. I've been a Seagate user for years but (well, we all know how that story ends) ... I will definitely be purchasing "black"

Blue has fast 320GB single platter drive. I believe the smallest black is 500GB. The 640GB Black and Blue aren't different by much.

Black has 5yr warranty, Green & Blue are 3yr.

EDIT: Just noticed that this is an old thread. Oops.
